The Galaxia space cluster in Transinne continues to ride on a tide of dynamic growth. Galaxia has the wind in its sails: with the refurbishment of the Euro Space Center, a 6-hectare expansion and the arrival of the European Space Agency training centre, the IDELUX business park is ideally positioned as a strategic location for space industry investment. Find out why !
A CENTRE IN THE FOREFRONT OF TRAINING FOR THE SPACE SECTOR
On Friday 29 March 2019, the European Space Agency (ESA) opened its new training and education centre at Galaxia. The academy offers innovative training and education programmes for teachers and university students from ESA member states.
The courses are taught by space experts from leading institutions (the e-technology lab, the Training and Learning Facility and the CubeSat Support Facility).
The 1,200 people who will undertake training at Transinne every year are the specialists that Europe needs to meet current and future societal challenges. The Galaxia park’s central position and its closeness to the ESA were key factors in the ESA’s decision to invest and locate there.
A 6-HECTARE EXPANSION TO THE PARK FOR TARGETED ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
In parallel with this new facility, the Galaxia park is again expanding in order to attract further investment.
An additional six hectares will be developed by the end of 2020 in order to enable new businesses to locate there. This development requires investment of €5,300,000, for which subsidies totalling €4,360,000 are being provided by SOWAFINAL under the Wallonia Investment Plan and by the Department for Business Park Development.
New roads, storm water basin, car park and planting will increase the attractiveness of the park which is strategically located close to the major road network.
the refurbished EURO SPACE CENTER as a high quality tourist attraction
Historically Galaxia, which is now one of the major business parks operated by IDELUX and Invest in Luxembourg, was based solely on the Euro Space Center, a flagship tourist attraction in the Province of Luxembourg. After 30 years, refurbishment was required in order to continue to offer the public a modern, interactive understanding of the space industry.
The whole layout will be redesigned to provide comfortable reception areas and an astronaut training hall with new attractions such as an orbital ride and a “Martian village”.
The buildings accommodating interns and school groups will also be brought up to current standards.
A COMPREHENSIVE CLUSTER DEVOTED TO THE SPACE INDUSTRY
All these new features are part of the international roll-out of the Redu-Transinne space industry cluster which comprises the Galaxia business park and the ESA-ESEC Redu centre.
This set of initiatives, each with great prospects in its own right, puts the Redu-Transinne cluster and the province de Luxembourg at the centre of the European stage in terms innovation, development and training in the space industry.
A golden opportunity for businesses in the sector – start-ups or established companies – wishing to invest in a stimulating environment with excellent prospects!
